Halloween night

It's Halloween, have a good FRIGHT!
Fancy dress parties,
Ritual delight,
knocking on doors,
Shout out trick or treat
Exciting a family, having their tea
Holding a seance, in candle lit room
Creak on the stairs, an arghhh and an ooooo
and the optional extra of adding a BOO!!!

31st October 2019 : vsspoem prompt

This Life

Was it a mistake
To stake
Your life on a dream,

Walk away from security
Be brave
For something unseen,

Leave the easy monotony
A symptom
Of life where you’re born,

Leave the unsatisfying daily grind
To reveal
A real, human life form,

On a train, same old same, everyday
Or Life
Somewhere different, let your soul out to play.

We put ourselves in chains
A slave
Accept everything we’re told,

Then we do it to the next generation
It's the lie
That never gets old

Big TV’s, spiraling debt, read about celebrity lives
Faux wealth
Spend your life chasing money until you die,

Set yourself free, live life, embrace uncertainty
This life
On planet Earth, good health and vitality.

Grandpa Whys Ouija board

Halloween camping,
with Grandpa Whys Ouija board.

"You're pushing it"
"No I'm not" laughed Who
"Be serious we could make contact"
"He's not #alive" said What

They began arguing.
The Glass moved,
Mouths open, it spelt out

"Who said you could take the Ouija board, G.W".

All Fall Apart

Back against cold,
Cardboard on the stone
This church vestibule
For now I call home
Flyers for playgroup,
A.A meeting tonight
Drama society,
Normal town life,
I had all this once
Friends, house and a car
It’s amazing how fast,
it can all fall apart
A bout of Depression
Off work,
Then no pay
Then the repo men come,
And they take it away.
When everything’s gone
And your left with the streets
Your home is an alley
Behind bins
In a field
You’re treated like garbage
Spat on
And kicked
Moved on by police
If your begging,
your nicked!
Food is in banks
Your shops are in bins
Or you can turn tricks
For a place out of the wind
Others like me,
when I lost my world
Were the ones I must Thank,
as they helped me, help myself.

Gravestones

They sat on the grave yard wall, flicking sycamore helicopters.

“You, noticed how they look like teeth”
“What?”
"Gravestones".

Why put his head back, and stuck his teeth out.

“Eww, No they don’t!”
“You sure”
“Ok, a bit, Just not as clean as gravestones” said Who.

The monster beside me

The monster beside me
You know it's name
Is childhood trauma,
Hidden pain,
Taking the wrong path, time and again.
Unanswered questions
A hellion
My sexuality
Ensuing rebellion,
Unexplored teenage desires
Drug use, rites of passage, bonfires
and many lost friends.

Last weekend before Halloween

Trick or treat,
Money or sweet,
Last weekend,
Before Halloween,
Pumpkin light,
Twisted face,
Disturbing Stories,
Keep you awake,
Something at the window,
Tip Tap on the Door,
At this rate,
You're still awake at 4,
But thats Ok,
At 2am,
Clocks fall back,
 1 hour again.

Writers Block

There is something inside me
I think that it's stuck,
It arrived there on Sunday
and it just won't budge.

I've had it before
and I couldn't write then,
It stops poems and stories
even with a nice pen.

It twists my mind sideways
fills my heart full of rocks,
Turns self doubt against me
it's called writers block.

Melody divine

Synthetic buildup
Altered perception
Hold up your arms
For anthemic injection

Beat strong and driving
Progressive
Balanced
Unseen union
Souls tribal in dance

Liquid transition
Melody divine
Sensory elevation
Trance state of mind

The Sun

First virgin rays
Cool innocent light,
Chase blackness away
Back into the night.

Stars racing away
The new bluing sky,
Galactic bodies
Retreat from first light.

Moon lingers around
It's gripped on the tide,
Earth's celestial friend
Silent bodyguard up high.

Intense Incandescence
Warms to the bone,
Light puddles radiation
Dappled on stone.

Ultraviolet warning
Invisible light,
A devil and an angel
indiscriminate fight.

One last phase
Before day makes way for the night,
An explosion of colour
Cascading delight.

A Mercurial looking fella

A Mercurial looking fella
an imaginary type,
Dresses as a Templar
rides a small pink bike.

Lives in next doors cellar
Brother is his name,
Has his own Excalibur
A 4 foot candy cane.

If you ever want to join him
A moment you will need
Forget about reality,
suspend all disbelief.

Imaginations fire

Pulsating driving beat
Techno for my soul,
It's part of my existence
This imaginative resistance
No limits to my goals.
Hearts symbiotic bounty
Is Imaginations fire.
Life is an opportunity
To write,
to bend reality,
to describe invisibility,
Every minute I'm alive.

Peace Palace

The old hospital, derelict, no match for misfits and outcasts
This was their peace palace.
Sex, Drugs and Rites of passage.

Got a baggie from a notorious skank.
A palpable sense of excitement
Newbies
"It's easy yeah, smoke, fuck, and become invincible"
"Ok, lets go".

Imagination on Strike

I had a fright
when I tried to write
and I found
my little voice inside
had gone on strike

Nada for a poem
Flash fiction, was a No
and my work in progress
was not even a go!

To feed imagination
You need a pot of tea
1 Pack of chocolate biscuits
or maybe, custard creams.

Subconscious warning

Wish you'd paid attention
When you slammed into that tree
Trapped,
In pain, and bleeding.
Plans of life receding.
Feeling cold,
Breathing's slow,
Alone!
Depressed,
Subconscious warning,
A blackness
Inside your head.
Talk,
Cry,
Tell a Friend,
Live
No use in dead.

Sirens

They played at the cove.
Tossing stones,
drinking rank booze they robbed off a bum

This is where the siren appears
sings her enchantment so divine
that men sacrifice their #souls swimming out to find her.

"Rubbish" who said?
"Well whats that noise?"
"The cops"
"RUN!"

Typos

Typo's really are the worse
they ruin a post about your car,
and how it sits upon your lap
It's a lovely fury kind of chap
Oh no, it's flown into a rage
and trashed that line across the page
I didn't spot it when i sent it put
oh no not again, my brains caput!

it's 5am

Tick tock goes the clock
The siren sounds at the dock,

The Imam sings a call to prayer
His voice is carried in the air,

The church bells toll
Time marches on,
That line is from a Metallica song

The factory whistle sounds a peep,
Its 5am, does no one sleep.

Ride into Oblivion

It tasted of death,
last cup of guilt.
The man retched,
bubbles boiled from his nose.
Tears streaked his broken,
acid etched skin.
How had it come to this?
Now it was his ride into oblivion
His wife and child beauty forever
Their slain bodies, his now lifeless corpse

Behind my bedroom door

The room is dark
a creak,
I wake.
I sit right up,
try not to shake.
I hold my breath
Time seems to slow
in the keyhole
I see its glow
It's now behind my bedroom door
I feel it shuffling through the floor
It moves away
I dare not blink
tonight I'll lock the door I think

The Metal Detector

Beeeep
The metal detector sings
I dug my heel into the sod
Set aside my machine,
Picked up my spade
Thwack!
Through stoney ground
Using my trowel carefully removing dirt
I find a ring,
Its stuck,
I pull
It's on a finger
Then a hand,
Still holding it's metal detector.

Devoured

I stand dazed,
41 years!
On my memorial stone.
No body, so no grave.
My folks, left,
Years of mourning devoured them
The towns different but the same.
The ethereal void gone, just earth, nothing grows.
I can't believe its been so long
It was only yesterday I was taken.

Cryogenic Dreams

Tears like milky pearls
rolled down my cheeks,
Caught by the failing light
of the dying sun.

The last people evacuated,
ours was the last ship to leave.

Cryogenic dreams would

replace reality for the journey,
by the time we arrived
this planet Earth, would be gone.

Ghosts of life

Another day alone,
Arthur feels the weight of his mistakes.

They play in his head, ghosts of an unfulfilled life.

Everyday haunting, taunting him,
echoes of what should have been.

He stares out to sea,

Free fall into eternity, everything's gone.
Now I'm a ghost too.

A.D.D

A.D.D,
Inattention,
Forty years,
Not one mention,
Fidget,
Scratch,
Easily distracted
.
.
.
Ooo Twitter.
.
.
.
Meeting boring,
5000 word creative out pouring,
Conversation,
End in Daydreaming,
Lost my keys,
Sudden screaming,
They're here I just forgot
I seem to do that a lot.

Salt Crusted Stanchions

No Trespassing
The pier empty,
almost total darkness
amber light cast from salt crusted stanchions.

Giant robots resting in shadows

Wind against metal, sound like a snore

Creeping silent terror,

can not breath,
If they waken we'll trespass our death.
.
.
.
Achoo...

Broken

Thinking "my future"
I'm unhappy, have been for years.

Wear a smile like a mask around others.

Something's broken inside.

Crippled with depression and doubt

It's taken my confidence,
Driven a wedge between friends,
Replaced love with anger,
Where the fuck does it end!

Mrs Hollis

The front door closes,
I watch as Mrs Hollis squeezed into black latex slides elegantly into a waiting car.

Younger than yesterday, maybe 40 years.
Nice car, executive type, all money no common sense.

I wonder if he feels safe?
Beyond the safe zone,
Alone with a killer.

Ruined Meal

Last alley behind a
Thai/French fusion restaurant.

Cobbles slippery as ice,
Leaking water dripped
from a bathroom overflow,
strawberry scent and bubbles
mixing with the primordial ooze
leaking from a slurry bin,

nothing worse than bath water
to ruin the days only meal.

Crappy end to Colony

"I found it; it's....Denouement."

"What!?" Shouted Sophie from the office.

"Denouement, today's #vss365"

"Denouement?!" Sophie acclaimed with incredulity.

"Yes, like the crappy way they ended Colony"

"I know what it means, why not something simple like Chunk" she chuckled.

Iceland

“Where did you put it?” Dosan was frantic, as he turned the room over looking for the stash. “Back in the hollow, same as always” “Well it...
